It’s about time we mentioned the handsome sire of this litter. Calcifer and Vesta first met at puppy classes in Gloucestershire (home of the Mahinda dogs) and then advanced to gun dog training together. They were born within a week of each other in April 2016. He caught my eye from the very beginning; he is a lovely dog, eager to please, calm by nature, watches his handler most attentively – and has the advantage of being very good-looking too! He has proved most successful as a working dog. Not only does he pick up on more than 40 days during the shooting season, he has collected a number of awards:
In 2017 he won the Trephidp Trophy for Best Flatcoat in the Cotswold tests
In 2018 he was awarded a Certificate of Merit in the A/V working tests in Bristol, the only flatcoat to compete alongside 34 labradors
In 2018 he won the Rasanen Trophy for the best novice dog in the team event.
He will be entering Field Trial tests later this year.

His father, Musse, (Conover’s Believe in Me SE RPCH SE SPCH SE LCH SE DRAGCH), was bred in Sweden, born on 12th May 2007. He was truly a most special and exceptional dog and was awarded more cups and awards in his 10.5 years than I have space to list here. You will be able to see the Swedish influence in the puppies’ pedigree.
